Believe it..

So now that i'm back, i've got a lot to talk about...when you have no computer, and no internet access, you find you have a lot more free time on your hands.

I spent my forced vacation from the net doing weird shit like working extra shifts, watching movies, and playing console video games...

I now hate my job even more than before (didn't think that was possible, did you?) that's all i'm fucking saying about that right now, lol

I rented a lot of movies.....

They finally got around to releasing the first DVD of the english dub of Naruto.....anyone who knows me, knows i'm a huge Naruto fan..

Once again, we get a watered down, poorly translated version of a top quality show, with shitty voice tallent.....totally fucking balls...

So lets start with the box....pretty normal until you look at the back...."edited north american TV version". This should have been my first clue that this wasn't going to be the same show it was in japan...this is, after all the same version they're showing on cartoon network.

I figured i'd try it anyway.

They changed a lot of terms....like what they call the hokage...i can't remember off hand exactly what it was, but i do remember it was wrong, lol....Jutsu was another one...they use it to refer to ninja techniques...this was not the same term used in the japanese version. and they bastardized the names of places too....like the names of countries and villages.....

They have women doing the voice acting for at least one male character that i know of, which is of course very obviously fucked up..

They badly butchered the pronounciation of terms like Genin, and Jounin, and people's names, like Sasuke, Shikamaru, Iruka, etc.

I hate how they've edited the show too...i believe it's in the first episode, Naruto uses a technique is created called "Sexy no jitsu", where he turns himself into a cute naked chick...this would cause the guy it was used on to flip out, and fall over with blood spewing out of his nose...very comical...now in the japanese version, there was strategicly placed smoke over the girl's naughty bits, so they didn't hafta actually block-censor anything....In the american version, they show the chick with the strategicly placed smoke, but they actually EDIT OUT the blood from the recipient's reaction....what the fuck?

You can show a mostly naked chick, but not a little blood?...can you say "Fucked up?"

Then in episode 4, Kakashi Kancho's Naruto....what a kancho is, for those of you who don't know is when you take your hands, put them together, like you're making a gun...then you can fold down your thumbs if you want......then you sneak up behind somone, and basicly ram your fingers up their ass through their pants....it's kinda funny when you're not the recipient...

anyways, Kakashi does this to Naruto so as to teach him to never let his enemy get behind him.....in the japanese version as he's doing it, he treats it as a ninja technique, and declares "ONE THOUSAND YEARS OF PAIN!" and you see him poke him in silouette...In the american version, he declares "ONE THOUSAND YEARS OF DEATH", and they completely edit the visual of the poke.....

so they pretty much destroyed 2 of the funniest gags in the opening episodes...


they've done other fucked up editing shit, these are just the most blatant examples...

I hate the voice tallent they got.....NONE of the voices fit, except for Naruto..and even that's more like a "fat guy squeezing his lard ass into an old suit" kinda fit.....they also made a lot of changes to dialogue...as i said before, they changed terms, butchered pronounciations, removed even the mildest of "bad words", and changed names of stuff....but the thing that annoys and pisses me of the most about the dialogue, is that they've got Naruto saying "Believe it" ALL THE FUCKING TIME....it's totally out of place....i don't remember him saying that at all really in the japanese version....they may as well have him saying "nigga please" every five fucking minutes...it'd be about as appropriate.

Another thing that pisses me off almost as much as "believe it" is what they've done to the opening titles, closing credits, and music of the series....they axed the opening music, and exchanged it with this crummy shit that kinda half way sounds like it belongs....then they change up the opening animation and recut it to make it shorter, and don't even keep it in order....looks like shit. Then we move on to the ending credits....they redid that too, and changed the music....the opening and ending were always cool as hell, because they'd change every 20 or so episodes, same as the opening...new music, new animation..it was cool...

They also edited, recut, and modified certain pieces of music throughout the show....i have no fucking idea why they did this, but it fucks up the feel of the show....the music is a character...one they've decided to rape in the asshole.....

Hands down, i wouldn't bother wasting money to rent or buy the "edited north american TV version"....i'd download torrents of fansubs....the ones by AoNE/ANBU are the best(You can find all the ones that have been translated by them so far at www.gotwoot.net)....or, if you can find an english dub version that isn't edited, go for that....it'd be a lot sounder investment.....believe it.
